Self management is a great option for participants who truly need full control and are confident managing the administrative side of their funding.

If you are hiring your own staff and managing your own support workers, self management may work well for you. However, for many participants, self managing can become overwhelming, stressful and time consuming.

If you have tried self management and feel unsure about invoices, line items or budgeting, it may be time to consider switching to NDIS plan management.

Why Change Your NDIS Plan from Self Managed to Plan Managed?

When you move from self managed to plan managed, you keep your flexibility but remove much of the financial and administrative burden.

Changing from self managed to plan managed is an easy and hassle free process. The NDIS gives participants the right to request plan management at any stage of their plan. Adding plan management does not reduce your funding and does not remove any of your existing supports.

How Do I Change My NDIS Plan from Self Managed to Plan Managed?

In 3 simple steps you can change your NDIS plan to plan management. Any NDIS participant can ask to have plan management added to their NDIS plan. This can be done:

At Your Initial Plan Meeting

During your initial NDIS planning meeting you can simply request that your NDIS plan includes plan management funding. This will not impact any of the other funding in your plan.

You can also submit the Request for plan management letter to your NDIS planner or LAC before, during or after this meeting.

You will need to endorse a plan manager and let the NDIS know who you would like your plan manager to be in order for them to provide plan management supports.

At Your NDIS Plan Review or Reassessment

During your plan review or reassessment you can discuss with your LAC or NDIA planner that you want your new plan to be plan managed. This will not impact any of the other funding in your plan.

During Your NDIS Plan

To request a change to plan management during your plan, you simply need to get in touch with the NDIS and put in a request or light touch review:

  • Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or contact your LAC (listed on your plan)
  • Let them know you would like to switch to plan management and request a light touch plan review
  • If approved, this change can usually take 3 to 4 weeks
