Who is eligible to apply?

There are 4 main criteria that must meet in order to be eligible to apply for the NDIS:

  • Age: 0-65 years
  • Residency: Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder
  • Location: Must be living in Australia
  • Disability: You have a disability caused by a permanent impairment.

The journey of applying for the NDIS can be a difficult and a tumultuous time, especially for applicants who experience cognitive issues, are chronically exhausted or have other accessibility issues.

While it can be daunting, it’s important to remember that there are many different organisations, peak bodies and advocacy groups for your specific disability that can assist:

We’ve gathered a list of resources for some of the most common organisations that specifically assist people with their application to the NDIS. The common disabilities include:

How to apply?

Children under 9 – access the NDIS via the Early Childhood Pathway: CLICK HERE for more information

Ages 9 – 65:

  1. Contact your local NDIS office – NDIS Partners can help you apply to the NDIS by submitting the application on your behalf. This means you don’t need to complete the access request form yourself.
  2. Contact the NDIS to confirm you are eligible – call 1800 800 110
  3. Provide evidence of your disability
  4. Complete the NDIS Access Request Form
  5. Complete the supporting evidence form (if required)
  6. Submit all information to NDIS via email or post to GPO Box 700, Canberra, ACT 2601 (email is best if possible)

TIP: Don’t forget to keep copies of all the documentation you provide!

Ask for a Plan Manager to make your NDIS experience easier!

During your meeting, the NDIS representative will ask you how you would like your NDIS funding to be plan managed.

This refers to how your funds will be paid and financially managed.

The plan management provider of your choice will assist you in managing your NDIS plan funds.

The plan manager receives the funds from your plan via the NDIA when a claim is made, which is then used to fund the services you receive.
