Not Feeling Supported by Your Current NDIS Plan Manager?

If your NDIS funding is plan managed, you deserve to feel supported, heard and confident that someone genuinely has your back.

But we speak to parents, carers, teens and adults with disability every single week who tell us the same things:

  • “I never know who to contact.”
  • “Emails go unanswered.”
  • “I don’t feel confident spending my funding.”
  • “I feel like just another NDIS number.”

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and the good news is you don’t have to stay stuck.

You can change your NDIS Plan Manager at any stage of your plan.
You do not need to wait for a plan review.

At Plan Hero, we’ve helped hundreds of families and participants switch smoothly, often with zero stress. Below, we’ll walk you through exactly how it works.

Can You Change Your NDIS Plan Manager?

Yes.
You can change your Plan Manager at any time, as long as your plan includes plan management funding.

This applies whether:

  • You’re a parent or carer managing a child or teen’s plan
  • You’re an adult participant managing your own supports
  • You’re transitioning from self-managed to plan managed
  • You simply want better communication and clarity

The NDIS gives you choice and control — and that includes who manages your funding.

The 3 Simple Steps to Changing NDIS Plan Managers

Step 1: Choose Your New Plan Manager

This is the most important step.

TIP: Read out resource title How to Choose the BEST NDIS Plan Manager for you

Choose a Plan Manager who:

  • Takes the time to know you, not just your plan
  • Explains what you can and can’t claim in plain language
  • Pays invoices promptly
  • Is easy to contact when something doesn’t make sense

Families often come to us after feeling rushed or dismissed elsewhere. At Plan Hero, our plan managers always refer to your unique file and history, so you don’t need to repeat your story every time you call.

Step 2:

Notify the NDIA of Your New Plan Manager

Once you’ve chosen your new Plan Manager, the NDIA needs to update their system.

If your plan is in the NDIS PACE system, your new Plan Manager needs to be listed as an endorsed provider.

You can do this by:

  • Using the chat on the NDIS website
  • Calling the NDIS directly on 1800 800 110

If you’re switching to Plan Hero, we can guide you through this step so nothing is missed.

Legacy Plans

If you have an older legacy plan, you will need to give written notice to your current Plan Manager so they know they need to wrap things up.

You can send a short email letting them know you wish to cancel their services.

  • You do not have to give a reason
  • They cannot refuse
  • This must be done by the participant or authorised representative

Step 3:

What Should a Good NDIS Plan Manager Actually Do?

A Plan Manager’s role is financial administration, but great plan management goes further than just paying invoices.

A good Plan Manager should:

  • Know who you are and understand your situation
  • Pay invoices on time so your supports aren’t disrupted
  • Be easy to contact when you have questions
  • Help you understand how to use your funding correctly
  • Track your budget and flag over- or under-spending
  • Support your choice and control — not restrict it

We see it all the time: when plan management is done well, families feel calmer and more confident using their plan.

Real-Life Scenarios We See Every Week

Scenario 1: Parent of a Teen with Disability

A parent contacts us because their teen’s therapy schedule is changing and they’re unsure what’s claimable. Their current Plan Manager takes days to reply — or doesn’t reply at all.

After switching to Plan Hero, they have clear answers, live budget tracking, and confidence to approve supports without fear.

Scenario 2: Adult Participant Managing Their Own Plan

An adult participant wants independence but feels anxious about invoices and overspending. They’re constantly second-guessing themselves.

With the right Plan Manager, they gain clarity, control, and peace of mind — while still making their own choices.

Specialist Plan Managers: Top Tips Before You Switch

  1. Ask how quickly invoices are paid
  2. Check how easy it is to contact them
  3. Make sure they explain claims clearly (not just “yes” or “no”)
  4. Look for experience with both children and adults
  5. Choose a team that genuinely listens

You see the difference straight away when plan management is done properly.
