How to Get Plan Management Included in Your NDIS Plan

If you believe Plan Management is right for you, there are several ways to have this service included in your NDIS plan.

Whether you are preparing for your first plan, currently in an active plan, or looking to change plan managers, we have outlined your options below to help you get started.

Ways Your NDIS Funds Can Be Managed

Your NDIS plan can be managed in different ways. You can choose to have all or part of your plan managed using one of the following options:

Agency Managed

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) manages your NDIS funds. The NDIA pays registered providers directly on behalf of the participant.

Self Managed

You (or your plan nominee) manage your NDIS funds. This means you pay providers directly and are reimbursed by the NDIS for eligible supports and services.

Plan Managed

A registered plan management provider of your choice assists you in managing your NDIS funds. The plan manager receives funding from the NDIA and pays providers on your behalf, helping you track spending and stay within budget.

If the answer is yes, here is how you can request Plan Management.

How to Request Plan Management

You can request Plan Management at any stage of your NDIS journey.

  • Just starting out? Request Plan Management at your Planning Meeting.
  • Already a participant but don’t have Plan Management? Request a plan review.
  • Already have a plan manager but not happy? You can change plan managers.

Request Plan Management at Your Planning Meeting

Before your initial NDIA meeting, consider how you would like your funding managed. Your Planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) will ask you this question during your meeting.

If Plan Management is right for you, you can:

  • Discuss this with your NDIS Planner or LAC during your meeting and request “Improved Life Choices” be included in your NDIS plan.
  • Download and send our Request for Plan Management form to provide to your Planner or LAC prior to your meeting.

Request a Light Touch Plan Review

If your plan has already started and does not include Plan Management (meaning it is currently Self or Agency Managed), you can request a change.

To do this:

  • Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 and request a Light Touch Plan Review.
  • Advise that you would like to switch the financial management of your plan to Plan Managed.
  • You can also submit a Request for Plan Management form outlining the required line items.

Changing Plan Managers

If your plan is already managed by another provider and you wish to change, you can do so at any stage by following these simple steps:

  1. Contact your current plan manager and request cancellation of their services. Most plan managers have a 28–30 day cancellation period, although this may be waived at their discretion.
  2. Inform your new plan manager that you are transitioning to their service.
  3. Contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110 to advise them of the change and provide your new plan manager’s details so they can update your NDIS portal.
  4. Wait for your funds to be released, then begin working with your new plan manager.

No matter what stage you are at, you are entitled to request Plan Management in your NDIS plan. If you have concerns, speak with your LAC, NDIS Planner or Support Coordinator.
